The Art Deco geometric illusion
The jewellery aesthetic of the 1920s was characterised by clean lines and symmetrical structures. This pair of second-hand stud earrings embodies this technical approach by utilising the illusion setting technique. At the centre of each earring, five natural baguette-cut diamonds are arranged to form a continuous rectangular surface. This arrangement of ten central gemstones, totalling approximately 0.40 carats, replicates the geometry of a single emerald-cut diamond. The 18-carat white gold setting provides a neutral colour base. The metal highlights the stones’ transparency and the precision of their arrangement, allowing the volumes to be immediately apparent.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The design is based on an openwork rectangular setting with bevelled edges. This metal framework allows natural light to pass through the stone settings. The central motif is set using invisible setting, with no visible metal between the baguette-cut diamonds. A peripheral halo comprising 44 natural brilliant-cut diamonds, totalling approximately 0.22 carats, frames the entire piece. These accent stones are secured using a small-claw setting. The contrast between the linear reflections of the baguette-cut diamonds and the light dispersion of the pavé setting emphasises the piece’s three-dimensional effect. The total carat weight is estimated at 0.62 carats.
Why choose these second-hand stud earrings
Purchasing this piece of second-hand jewellery is both a practical and aesthetic choice. This design has significant visual impact, comparable to that of a single, larger gemstone. Creating such a stone arrangement requires complex manual work. Choosing this piece offers the opportunity to acquire an elaborate design and a total of 0.62 carats of diamonds, set in a balanced arrangement, whilst helping to preserve the craft of precision setting.
