7 diamonds set along a fine chain
The ‘station’ necklace first appeared in the 1970s, based on a simple idea: to wear diamonds without a pendant, allowing them to be set at intervals along a fine chain. This white gold and diamond necklace follows this principle, featuring 7 brilliant-cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of approximately 0.31 carats. The 18-carat white gold, hallmarked 750, gives the metal a cool hue that enhances the whiteness of the stones. An unsigned second-hand piece, it retains the clean lines of a contemporary design, without any superfluous motifs or ornamentation.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
Each diamond is set in a closed setting, a fine gold rim folded down all around the stone – the oldest known setting technique. The bezel, with its slightly curved outline, protects the round-cut diamond and has no prongs that might snag a chain or silk. Each link is connected to the chain by a ring on either side, allowing it to pivot and follow the movement of the neck. The seven links are concentrated at the front – three on each side and one in the centre – whilst the back of the chain remains unadorned. The forçat chain, with its round, even links, fastens with a lobster clasp. When worn, the diamonds align with the collarbone and catch the light at regular intervals.
Why choose this second-hand necklace
A white gold and diamond step necklace requires meticulous craftsmanship, with seven settings to be formed around each stone and just as many links to be adjusted so that the piece hangs straight. Buying it second-hand gives you access to this workshop craftsmanship and a substantial amount of diamonds, for less than the price of a comparable new piece in a jewellery shop. Its length of 42 cm means it sits at the base of the neck, where it can be worn on its own for a minimalist look or paired with a longer chain.
