The Geneva Seal (Poinçon de Genève) is the world's most prestigious watchmaking certification : instituted by the Grand Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva in 1886, it's the only watch label backed by a State guarantee, controlled by Timelab, an independent public body. To qualify, a watch must be entirely assembled, adjusted, and cased in the Canton of Geneva, meet 12 strict artisanal finishing criteria, and pass functional tests for precision, water resistance, and power reserve. Only approximately 24,000 watches per year receive this certification (compared to over one million for the COSC) making it one of the rarest and most reliable quality signals in the market for informed collectors.
